Indonesia 2012 Public Holidays

Indonesia’s public holidays are largely made up of religious festivals, such as Hindu’s Nyepi (Day of complete silence) or the Christian Good Friday. As expected, in a country with a Muslim-majority population, there are more public holidays for Islamic festivals. Muslim festivals are timed according to local sightings of various phases of the moon and so if dates are given, they are approximations. Buddhist festivals are also timed according to phases of the moon and variations may occur.

Other public holidays include international holidays such as New Year day, or national holidays such as The Proclamation of Independence.

New Year's Day, 1 January
New Year's Day is the first day of the New Year. On the modern Gregorian calendar, it is celebrated on January 1st . Almost all countries use the Gregorian calendar as their main calendar.
Chinese Lunar New Year, 23 January
Chinese New Year's celebration in Indonesia is known locally as Imlek Day. Some parts of the country such as Singkawang in Kalimantan, Sukabumi, Semarang, and others celebrate this in grand festivities. Chinese New Year was not considered a national holiday before 2002.
Maulid Nabi or The Birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW, 5 February
Falls in the month of Rabi' al-awwal in the Islamic calendar, the Maulid Nabi commemorates the birthday of the prophet Muhammad pbuh.
Day of Silence (Nyepi),23 March
Celebrating the turn of the Hindu Saka Year, Nyepi is one of the most significant religious events for Balinese Hindus. This year, it celebrates the coming of the Saka New Year of 1931. From 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, the island of Bali will plunge into complete silence, with no air, sea and land traffic allowed, all lights and fires dimmed, and no activities on the beach. The night before there will be celebrations along the beaches.
Good Friday, 6 April
Good Friday is also called Holy Friday, Black Friday, or Great Friday. The day is observed by Christians throughout Indonesia, especially in Christian dominated regions such as in , Toba, Manado, Ambon and Flores. Special commemoration of this religious day can be observed at Larantuka Flores , known locally as Semana Santa.
Vesak Day, 6 May
Vesak is an annual holiday celebrated traditionally by practicing Buddhists in Indonesia. This is a Buddhist holiday to commemorate the life and death of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Bhuddism. It actually represents the birth, enlightenment (Nirvana), and passing away (Parinirvana) of Gautama Buddha. Commemoration ceremonies are focused at Borobudur and the Mendut temple in Central Java.
The Ascension of Jesus Christ, 17 May
The Ascension of Jesus in the Christian teaching is found in the New Testament when the resurrected Jesus was taken up to heaven in his resurrected body in the presence of eleven of his apostles, occurring 40 days after Easter day.
Isra Mi’raj, The Ascension of Prophet Muhammad SAW, 17 June
The Isra and Mi'raj are the two parts of a Night Journey that, according to Islamic tradition, Prophet Muhammad took during a single night around the year 621. Commemorated every 27 Rajab according to the Islamic Calendar, the celebrations around this day tend to focus on children and the young. Children are gathered into a mosque and are told the story of the Isra and Mi'raj.
Independence Day, 17 August
17 August is celebrated across the country, from small-remote villages to all major cities. Known as the day of the birth of the Republic of Indonesia, Independence Day celebrations are filled with numerous vibrant festivities. Official ceremonies are held at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, officiated by the President.
Eid ul Fitr, 19-20 August
Eid ul-Fitr (Id-ul-Fitr), is the biggest and most important Muslim holiday that celebrates the completion of Ramadhan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid in Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fitr means "to break the fast", so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. During this period people, especially in large cities leave town and visit relatives in villages and home towns. The annual trek involves millions of people around the country, especially on Java and Sumatra.
Eid-al-Adha, 26 October
Eid al-Adha "Festival of Sacrifice" or "Greater Eid" is a Muslim Holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God. Eid al-Adha annually falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja of the Islamic calendar. This day come approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan. On this day, thousands of cattle and goats are sacrifized and distributed to communities, in remembarance of Ibrahim ‘s(Abraham’s) sacrifice.
Muharram, 15 November
The Islamic New Year is a cultural event which Muslims observe on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.
Christmas, 25 December
Although Indonesia is a predominantly a Muslim country, Christmas is a national holiday for Christmas in Indonesia. Christians throughout the country celebrate by attending church services. Christmas is normally celebrated in the family circle. At the end of the year, shopping centers are decked in their finest to lure shoppers, and malls are filled with bargain-hunters. Manado in North Sulawesi usually stage special Christmas celebrations.

Indonesian Visa on Arrival

Foreign tourists to be able to extend visa-on-arrival in Indonesia
Foreign tourists visiting Indonesia can now extend their visas-on-arrival for another 30 days, as of Jan. 26, 2010 the Indonesian immigration office announced Monday.

Prior to this, foreign tourists were not allowed to extend their visas-on-arrival. They had to leave the country to get a new visa.

In the new ruling, the immigration office has decided to scrap the seven-day visa-on-arrival. The office will now only issue visas for a 30-day stay at the rate of US$25, extendable for another 30 days.

The TSA has recently notified airlines about information regarding Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) that will impact our workflow and the service we provide to our customers.

Beginning November 1, 2010, passenger reservations without full SFPD will be rejected by the TSA’s Secure Flight rule and will not be processed.

This applies to all PNRs including International and domestic travel

The TSA requires the following information as it appears on their valid government issued photo ID they plan to use for travel identification, for all passengers flying to/from/within/over the United States, and for all U.S. Operating Carriers. :

Full name
Date of birth
Gender
Passport number (International Travel)
Passport expiry date (International Travel, minimum valid 6months)

Although this mandate for airlines is effective November 1, 2010, some airlines have announced they will begin enforcing the SFPD requirements as early as July 1, 2010, to ensure compliance with the TSA.

Effective April 01, 2009, the free baggage allowance for economy class shall be amended from 32 kg (70 lbs.) to 23 kg (50 lbs.) for specific routes governed under the Piece system (refer to "2. Applicable Flights").

Furthermore, the sum of the linear dimensions of two pieces must not exceed

Note: Some exceptions may apply for code-share flights operated by other carrier.

For infants not entitled to a seat

Carry-on Baggage

Please limit your carry-on baggage to 1 piece.
Carry-on baggage should be limited to one piece with linear dimensions not exceeding 115cm (45in.) in addition to such personal effects for in cabin use as handbag, camera, etc. Total weight of the such articles should not exceed 10kg (22lbs.).
Please stow your baggage properly under the seat or in overhead storage bin.
Please check-in any oversize or overweight baggage at the counter. For safety reasons, any baggage exceeding the aforementioned carry-on allowance or any baggage which can not be stowed properly due to limit of cabin stowage capacity will be stowed in a cargo compartment after being handled as checked baggage at the gate or in the cabin.
Passengers are requested to minimize the carry-on baggage to a minimum so as to facilitate the passenger flow through security check.

Anak yang lahir di Amerika bisa mendapat dua kewarganegaraan sampai umur 18 tahun.
Anak yang lahir setelah 1 Agustus 2006, otomatis mendapatkan dua kewarganegaraan tersebut.
Anak yang lahir di Amerika sebelum tanggal 1 Agustus 2006, harus mendaftarkan kewarganegaraan Indonesia di KBRI/KJRI (walaupun sudah punya paspor Indonesia).
Batas pendaftaran Kewarganegaraan Indonesia ini adalah tanggal 31 Juli 2010 jam 24:00. Setelah tanggal tersebut pendaftaran kewarganegaraan Indonesia harus dilakukan di Indonesia dengan syarat anak tersebut sudah tinggal 5 tahun berturut-turut di Indonesia atau 10 tahun tidak berturut-turut.
Biaya pendaftaran kewarganegaraan sebagai berikut :
$106 untuk Pendapatan Negara Bukan Pajak (PNBP)
$ 20 untuk legalisasi dokumen pendukung
$ 53 PNBP untuk pengambilan Copy SK Kewarganegaraan dilakukan setelah SK telah jadi. Ybs akan dihubungi oleh KJRI Chicago melalui e-mail atau telephone.
$ 22 untuk pembuatan paspor dilakukan disaat pengajuan permohonan paspor.

Outline of New Immigration Procedures:
Requirements for the Provision of Personal Information

1. General Outline

On 24th May 2006, a new law amending parts of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act was promulgated and is due to enter into force as of November 20, 2007.
The revised law contains new provisions for the establishment of a framework for preventative measures against acts of terrorism. As part of this framework, a new anti-terrorism measure is to be implemented, which requires the submission of personal identification information at immigration control.

Under the new immigration procedures, when foreign nationals are applying for landing, fingerprints and a facial photograph will be taken after which an immigration control officer shall conduct an examination for landing.
In the event of any foreign national, who is required by the new law to be fingerprinted and photographed, refusing to submit to these new provisions, that person will not be permitted to enter Japan, and will be required to leave the country.

2. Affected persons

All foreign nationals entering Japan will be subject to the new provisions, apart from the following:

Special permanent residents
Persons under 16 years of age
Those persons performing activities which fall under the status of residence for ‘Diplomat’ or ‘Official’
Those persons who have been invited by the head of any national administrative organization
Those persons who are prescribed by the Ministry of Justice ordinance as equivalent to either (3) or (4)

3. New Immigration Procedures

Applicants will be required to follow the following procedures.

A person wishing to enter Japan must submit his/her passport to the immigration control officer.
Once the immigration control officer has explained the procedures that are to be followed, the person wishing to enter Japan will be asked to place the index fingers of both hands on a digital fingerprint reader. The fingerprint information will be read and stored electromagnetically.
A facial photograph will then be taken, using the camera located at the top of the digital fingerprint reader.
The immigration control officer will then conduct a short interview.
On completion of the above procedures, the person wishing to enter Japan will receive his/her passport from the immigration control officer.
